More and more Americans are now supporting the idea of legalizing the use of medical marijuana for health purposes. That was the conclusion of a new study done by a local researcher based in Sacramento.
While the result may come as a surprise to some, it shouldn’t, the data research team said. According to the aforementioned study, “The public’s growing support for marijuana law reform has been constant and consistent.” They added that,“When we first asked about legalizing marijuana, in 1969, 12 percent of Americans favored it. Support remained in the mid-20s, from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, but has crept up since, passing 30 percent in 2000 and 40 percent in 2009 before reaching the 50 percent level in this year's survey.”
To give you an idea, since 2005, public support for legalizing the use of this alternative medicine called, medical cannabis has grown among every single demographic polled. Right at this particular moment, a greater percentage of Americans of every age, political ideology, and from every region of the country back marijuana law reform than did just six years ago.
Below are the statistics of the latest survey done by local researchers, take a peek on it;
Fifty-four percent of Sacramentonians are now supporting the full legalization of medical marijuana, this stats went up by 22 percent from 2005. In the whole of California, 55 percent of respondents back reform, an increase of 15 percent.
Sixty-two percent of those aged 18 to 29 and 56 percent of those aged 30 to 49 endorse legalization, a jump of 23 percent and 17 percent respectively. Meanwhile, among both Democrat and Independent voters, 57 percent favor legalizing cannabis, an increase of 16 percent and 11 percent respectively.
Apart from the abovementioned study, support for ending the criminal prohibition of medical cannabis is also rising among demographics traditionally opposed to full legalization of this alternative medicine. Supporters would like to have a medical marijuana law reform to end being punished if you are caught in possession of this medical cannabis, even if you are using it for your health.
In other parts of the country, let’s say in southern United States in particular, there has been a nine percent jump in overall support. Finally, among those aged 50 to 64, support for full legalization of medical marijuana, and medical patients in Sacramento supports the legalization of this alternative medicine and more and more non government organizations are showing support for a marijuana law reform..
