Sacramento Medical Marijuana - People Reacting To Recent Crackdown

The entire Sacramento region is suspending the processing and approval of applications for permits to operate medical cannabis dispensaries in accordance to the recent development concerning the federal government’s crackdown on the cannabis industry.
According to a trusted source, “KCRA 3 obtained a letter sent by City Manager John Shirey temporarily freezing the approval of new dispensary applications and amending the city's current policies pertaining to medical marijuana.”

Medical marijuana has been highly regarded as one of the most trusted alternative medicine to cure various medical conditions, and this recent crackdown done by the feds would surely affect not just the industry but the medical patients as well who only rely on the great benefits they get from medical marijuana to their health.

The memorandum that came from the city manager said that the entire Sacramento is taking precautions following the announcement of a federal crackdown in early October by the U.S. Attorney's Office and a recent state appellate court ruling indicating that federal law preempts city ordinances.

"We are going to take a timeout right now," said Sacramento Planning Director David Kwong. "In the meantime, we will be taking time to re-evaluate the entire program."
The letter from KCR 3 already directs staff to impose stricter rules on dispensaries pertaining to how close they can operate to a school or park, churches, malls, children’s playground and many others, increasing the distance from 600 feet to 1,000 feet.

According to some medical marijuana patients, “If the city enforces the stricter guidelines, it could put dispensaries like Canna Care in North Sacramento in danger of closing.”
"Does that mean because a very corner of a park is 1,000 feet away that our patients here in Sacramento will not have safe access?" asked Canna Care director Lanette Davies. "I am very concerned over that."

Davies said she is confident the city won't force the dispensary to close and will move forward with the approval process.

"I trust our city, and I trust their judgment," Davies said.

Kwong said 29 dispensaries are currently in the midst of the approval process. Kwong said the city will likely extend a January deadline to process those applications because of this delay.

Fear of legal action has also led a Stockton dispensary to voluntarily close its doors this week.
The Federal government is still against the idea of full legalization of medical marijuana even for medical use so it is a must to take the precautionary measure in using this alternative medicine.
